IMPORTANT NOTE

There will likely be some updates to SuperStream messaging, including error messages, after Payday Super starts on 1 July 2026. Team Super will keep employers updated about these changes on this webpage. We will also update you via our Employer Relationship Managers and employer newsletters (if you are a registered employer).

OPT IN TO REAL-TIME PAYMENTS BY USING QUICKSUPER

QuickSuper* is SuperStream-complaint and accepts New Payment Platform (NPP) payments. Employers who have registered with Team Super can use QuickSuper* clearing house to pay super. The service is free to use, and you can make these payments to employees who are with multiple funds – not just Team Super.

Note: You’ll need to register as a Team Super employer before you can access the Team Super QuickSuper* clearing house portal.

HOW TO REGISTER AS A TEAM SUPER EMPLOYER
  1. Download this application form (PDF)

  2. Fill out the last two pages after reading the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS)

  3. Email the form to help@admin.teamsuper.com.

PAYING SUPER TO EMPLOYEES WITH TEAM SUPER ACCOUNTS

If you make super payments to members of Team Super, please see the five key steps to ensure your payments are Payday Super complaint.

Check that your employee data in your payroll system is accurate, including their:

  • first and last names;

  • date of birth;

  • Tax File Number (TFN); and

  • Residential address.

Please also ensure that their Unique Superannuation Identifier (USI)/fund details match fund records exactly. You can find Team Super's details here.

Use the Member Verification Request (MVR) function in your payroll system for new employees or employees who have changed funds to verify active accounts before the first contribution is made.

Use the Member Registration Request (MRR) function in your payroll system to register the employee as a member of Team Super (if you have not already done this).

See the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) QE Factsheet (PDF) and the Frequently Asked Questions section below to find out more about QE – this is a new concept that applies from 1 July 2026 for the calculation of the Super Guarantee (SG). The ATO has also released a QE factsheet that you may find useful.

Tip: Use a SuperStream-compliant payment method, such as QuickSuper*, with real-time payment to help achieve faster receipt. Monitor acknowledgements and rejections from Team Super or your clearing house as soon as they are received.

BEFORE YOU MAKE SUPER PAYMENTS

Because you could be liable for the Super Guarantee Charge (SGC) for a late payment, it’s important that you check that your payments go through to each employee. If they have not received their payment within seven business days of their pay, you could be liable for the charge even if you made the payment in time.

Therefore, please build the below steps into your super payment processes.

On the day you submit your payment:

  • process and send super contributions same day or immediately after wages;

  • use a SuperStream-compliant method with real-time payment for fastest receipt;

  • monitor for immediate acknowledgements/rejections from Team Super or the Clearing House; and

  • check Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting includes Qualifying Earnings (QE) and Super Guarantee (SG) liability.

AFTER YOU MAKE A SUPER PAYMENT

You should take the following steps after you have made your super payments for each pay cycle. These technically need to be done within seven business days – but to avoid the super guarantee charge, you should aim to complete these steps earlier:

  • review error/rejection messages promptly (as soon as possible to allow you to fix any payment errors before the seven business days elapse);

  • resubmit corrections quickly;

  • retain records of payments, dates, and responses; and

  • reconcile fund statements with payslips regularly.

SUPERSTREAM MESSAGES AND ACRONYMS

A range of error messages are sent from the super fund administrator back to SuperStream, and if applicable you will be able to see these error messages in your super payment reports. You should check for error messages as soon as possible, so you can ensure updates are made within three days to ensure that payments are received within the seven business day deadline.

For SuperStream, there are two types of response message:

  1. Technical responses: These are intended for the original sending party (employer via a payroll provider or clearing house) to evaluate as they relate to a technical issue(s) within the message that prevents a super fund from processing data into core registry systems. After a technical response is sent to the original sending party, it is the responsibility of that sender to correct and re-send the message.

  2. Business responses: These responses notify employers of unsuccessful processing events requiring them to take action to enable successful processing. Business responses may also confirm successful processing. Examples of business responses are detailed in the table below. This would occur when a fund cannot accept a contribution for processing.

Below are some of the more common messages (including error messages) you need to be aware of.

The Contributions Transaction Request (CTR) message is used to communicate the contribution details from the employer to the superannuation fund, administrator or clearing house.

A payment must be related to a single business document within a CTR message regardless of the number of members contained within that message.

As a general principle a CTR cannot be used by a super fund to establish a new member account. Where a fund cannot identify a member from the details provided in the CTR, the contribution must be refunded and a Contribution Transaction Error Response (CTER) – see below.

Because a Contribution Transaction Response (CTR) cannot generally be used by a super fund to establish a new member account, where a fund cannot identify a member from the details provided in the CTR, the fund must refund the contribution and a Contribution Transaction Error Response (CTER) will be issued using error code SUPER.GEN.GEN.21 (member not found with supplied information).

The Payment Reference Number (PRN) and amount in the Contribution Transaction Error Response (CTER) and refund payment must match. The associated CTER is used to inform the employer when a CTR message cannot be successfully processed. A CTER may be sent:

  • as a single response to a CTR for all errors discovered, once processing is complete for all members included in the CTR, or

  • multiple times for a single CTR, for any subset of errors discovered during processing of the CTR.

A CTER message may have an associated refund payment. Where a response message with a severity of ‘warning’ is sent, you should review your records and update the data for future contributions.

For example, if the warning SUPER.GEN.CNTRBTN.11 indicates an incorrect Unique Superannuation Identifier (USI), the fund will provide the correct USI. Employers should use this updated USI in the next Payroll/CTR run.

If an employee consents using your default fund, the employee should be registered with the default fund using the Member Registration Request (MRR) message. If the employee has nominated another fund, which is not your default fund, then it is their responsibility to register with the fund and provide the necessary details to you so that contributions can be made.

You should use the MRR message to maintain and update employee/member details with the default superannuation fund, or the employee’s choice superannuation fund.

Super funds and clearing houses send this message to notify of the outcome of a Member Registration Request (MRR), supplying new membership numbers or flagging registration errors. MRORs include error and success responses.

A fund must send a MROR for any new registration.

Member Verification Request (MVR) allows you to verify whether a fund can accept a super contribution for an employee. You must use the MVR prior to making a super contribution to a super fund for the first time. This can include a nominated fund by the employee through choice or a change in an employee’s choice of fund.

An MVR may also be used to verify an account:

  • Following a stapled account provided by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO);

  • Following a Successor Fund Transfer (where one fund merges with another);

  • Where there has been a change in payroll or registry systems where agreement has been provided by the fund ;

  • As part of corrective action following a rejected contribution from a fund; or

  • Where there are changes to an employee’s tax file number (TFN), Date of Birth, or Name.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You must not use the MVR to support regular contributions processes. (i.e. it is not to be used prior to every payment cycle.)

Funds must respond to the MVR as early as possible, but no later than 24 hours after receiving a request. Funds must provide a Member Verification Outcome Response (MVOR) message (see below).

Super funds must respond to the MVR as early as possible, but no later than 24 hours after receiving a request. The response is known as a Member Verification Outcome Response (MVOR) message. The MVOR message will confirm whether:

  • The super fund can match the employee information to an active account and will accept a contribution on behalf of that employee which both must be validated; or

  • The super fund cannot verify the member or there are eligibility reasons why they cannot accept contributions. An appropriate reason code needs to be provided when responding.
